Seaweed can help to save the world, not alone, but definitely play an important part of it. The business potential is immense, and Nordic SeaFarm is now setting the foundation to go big, by bringing in a new CEO. “We are ready to put Nordic SeaFarm on the map once and for all, and we are building a real seaweed powerhouse,” says Thony Michaelsen, Chairman of the Board at Nordic SeaFarm.
appointment of Christer Olausson as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective September 1st 2025. Olausson succeeds Simon Hilmersson, who has successfully led the company through a period of significant growth and commercialization and is now stepping down due to personal reasons. Hilmersson will continue working for Nordic SeaFarm as a Deputy CEO, focusing on the expansion of New Business Verticals and Strategy.
"We see great potential in food, which continues to be our main focus in the short term. At the same time, we see enormous business opportunities in biomaterials and new business verticals, which Simon will now have the opportunity to dedicate even more of his time to," says Michaelsen.
Olausson comes with a wealth of experience in scaling production and driving business expansion in different industries. His leadership will focus on strengthening the company’s position in the rapidly growing European seaweed industry and accelerating the commercialization of seaweed-based products for various industries, including but not limited to food, bioplastics and pet food.

Olausson brings a deep understanding of business development, having held executive roles in companies focused on medication, food and agriculture. His expertise aligns with Nordic SeaFarm’s commitment to advancing seaweed as an impactful ingredient in various industries.
